Fast Track During Peak Season
When airport queues are at their worst, Fast Track becomes essential. Here's what you need to know.
When Are Peak Travel Periods?
Airport security queues are significantly longer during certain periods. Here's when to expect the worst:
| Period | Typical Dates | Queue Impact |
|---|---|---|
| February half-term | Mid-February (1 week) | High |
| Easter holidays | Late March–mid April (2 weeks) | Very high |
| May bank holidays | Early May, late May | High |
| Summer holidays | Late July–early September | Extreme |
| October half-term | Late October (1 week) | High |
| Christmas/New Year | Mid December–early January | Very high |
How Much Longer Are Peak Queues?
During peak periods, standard security queue times can be 1.5x to 2.5x longer than normal. A queue that normally takes 15 minutes can easily reach 35-45 minutes during school holidays.
The worst times combine multiple factors:
- Friday afternoons in school holidays — weekend getaway rush
- Saturday mornings in summer — charter flight departure windows
- Bank holiday weekends — concentrated demand on Thursday/Friday
Does Fast Track Sell Out?
Yes. Many airports have limited Fast Track capacity to maintain the speed of the service. During peak periods, Fast Track passes can sell out days or even weeks in advance at popular airports like Heathrow, Manchester, and Stansted.
Our advice: Book as soon as you have your flight tickets if you're travelling during any peak period.
Peak Season Planning Checklist
- Book Fast Track at least 1-2 weeks ahead for peak dates
- Arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before international flights
- Check your airport's specific advice for busy periods
- Download your digital pass in advance — don't rely on airport Wi-Fi
- Have your liquids bag prepared before joining the queue
