What Is FastTrack Security?

FastTrack Security is a dedicated, pre-bookable security lane available at participating airports worldwide. It allows all passengers — regardless of airline or ticket class — to bypass the standard security queue and pass through a separate, less crowded checkpoint.

By booking FastTrack in advance, you secure a spot in a priority lane that typically has significantly shorter wait times than the regular queue. This means less time standing in line and more time enjoying the terminal, shopping, or simply relaxing before your flight.

FastTrack Security is available to everyone — families, solo travellers, business passengers, and leisure flyers alike. There are no membership requirements or loyalty programme tiers needed to access the service.

What FastTrack Is Not

  • Not airport lounge access — FastTrack only covers the security screening process
  • Not priority boarding — your boarding process remains as per your airline's policy
  • Not immigration fast-track — passport control and border checks are separate from security screening

About Boston Logan International Airport

Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) serves the Greater Boston area and is the primary international and domestic gateway for New England. The airport sits on Logan Airport Harbor and consists of four passenger terminals—A, B, C and E—connected by pedestrian walkways and a free Massport shuttle. Logan handles a wide mix of domestic flying and transatlantic/international services, with peak activity during business hours and strong seasonal leisure flows to New England destinations.

Terminal layout is straightforward: Terminals A, B and C are used predominantly for domestic and near-international flights; Terminal E is the international terminal where U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducts immigration processing. Ground transport options are plentiful: the MBTA Blue Line serves the Airport station with direct connections to downtown Boston, the Silver Line SL1 rapid bus links Logan to South Station, and Massport operates free shuttle buses between terminals and the centralized Rental Car Center. Taxis, rideshares and water shuttles (Seaport/Harbor) are available from curbside pickup points.

Security Information

Security screening at Logan is operated by the TSA at each terminal. Standard screening includes removal of liquids (3-1-1 liquids rule), laptops/tablets out of bags, and metal items into bins. TSA PreCheck lanes are available for eligible passengers on participating airlines; PreCheck keeps shoes and light jackets on and allows laptops and liquids to remain in bags for approved travellers. CLEAR biometric lanes are also available at certain checkpoints for members and expedite identity verification; CLEAR does not replace security screening but often speeds the identity check before TSA lanes.

International arrivals are processed in Terminal E by CBP. Global Entry kiosks are available for eligible enrolled travellers to expedite passport control. Note that FastTrack products (priority security lanes) only apply to departing passengers at security checkpoints and do not bypass immigration on arrival.

Is FastTrack Worth It at Boston Logan International Airport?

FastTrack-style priority security is valuable at BOS during peak morning and evening bank hours, on holiday travel days and summer weekends when lines to check-in and TSA screening can stretch. Using a priority lane reduces stress for tight connections, helps business travellers keep morning schedules, and gives families more time to reach gates and concessions. Local tip: take the Silver Line SL1 to South Station if you're heading downtown — it avoids Blue Line transfers and is included in the MBTA system on a single ticket. Allow extra time in winter months for de-icing or weather-related delays.

The Verdict

Common Mistakes at Boston Logan International Airport

  1. Underestimating time needed to move between remote gates—Terminals A, B and C are walkable but can require 10–20 minutes depending on gate assignments.
  2. Confusing terminals for check-in—major carriers can operate from different terminals depending on codeshares and alliances; always check your airline terminal.
  3. Assuming TSA PreCheck or CLEAR will be available for every flight—eligibility depends on airline participation and your membership status.
  4. Relying on curbside rideshare pickup without allowing extra time—the Logan curb and security traffic can cause short delays at peak times.
  5. Not accounting for international processing times when arriving in Terminal E—CBP can take longer than domestic baggage reclaim.

What If...?

  • International-to-international transfers routed through Terminal E may require a short walk through secure corridors and additional screening.
  • Late-night or very early-morning flights sometimes have reduced checkpoint staffing — priority lanes may not be open 24/7 at every terminal.
  • Winter storm operations can change terminal access patterns and shuttle frequency between terminals and the Rental Car Center.
  • TSA PreCheck is not guaranteed even if you usually have it; the airline and flight must be showing PreCheck on your boarding pass.
