What Is FastTrack Security?

FastTrack Security is a dedicated, pre-bookable security lane available at participating airports worldwide. It allows all passengers — regardless of airline or ticket class — to bypass the standard security queue and pass through a separate, less crowded checkpoint.

By booking FastTrack in advance, you secure a spot in a priority lane that typically has significantly shorter wait times than the regular queue. This means less time standing in line and more time enjoying the terminal, shopping, or simply relaxing before your flight.

FastTrack Security is available to everyone — families, solo travellers, business passengers, and leisure flyers alike. There are no membership requirements or loyalty programme tiers needed to access the service.

What FastTrack Is Not

  • Not airport lounge access — FastTrack only covers the security screening process
  • Not priority boarding — your boarding process remains as per your airline's policy
  • Not immigration fast-track — passport control and border checks are separate from security screening

About Frankfurt am Main Airport

Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA) is Germany's largest airport and one of Europe's busiest aviation hubs. Located about 12 km southwest of central Frankfurt, FRA handles a large mix of short-, medium- and long-haul flights and is the primary hub for Lufthansa and the Lufthansa Group. The airport's infrastructure includes two main passenger terminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) connected by the SkyLine automated people mover and short, frequent shuttle services. A new Terminal 3 development has been progressing in recent years to expand capacity and stands alongside the existing terminals.

Terminal 1 is the core hub used extensively by Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners and is arranged into concourses (A, B, C) with a central check-in hall and a long-distance (Fernbahnhof) rail connection beneath it. Terminal 2 serves a wide range of non-Lufthansa carriers and low-cost operators and includes its own security and transfer facilities. Ground transport options are comprehensive: ICE and regional trains call at the long-distance station (Fernbahnhof) and the regional/S-Bahn station (Regionalbahnhof), long-distance and regional buses operate from the forecourts, and taxis, rental cars and multiple parking options are available. The SkyLine, shuttle buses and pedestrian links allow transfers between terminals and to the rail stations.

Security Information

Security screening at FRA follows standard EU and German civil aviation rules. Passengers pass through X-ray screening for hand luggage and walk-through metal detectors or body scanners. Liquids must be in containers of 100 ml or less and presented in a clear resealable bag. Laptops and large electronic devices should be removed from bags and placed in trays. For non-Schengen arrivals, passport/immigration checks are handled at dedicated passport control desks. FastTrack lanes are provided at selected security checkpoints in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2; these lanes speed up the physical screening process but do not replace passport control for non-Schengen arrivals or exit controls where applicable. All passengers must present a valid boarding pass and photo ID at security.

Is FastTrack Worth It at Frankfurt am Main Airport?

FastTrack is particularly valuable at FRA because even outside peak hours this airport's size and volume can generate long queues at security. Using FastTrack reduces the time spent queueing, reduces stress for tight connections (particularly for short-transfer times between long-haul and Schengen flights) and helps families or business travellers simplify the pre-flight process.

Local tip: If you're connecting between Terminals 1 and 2 and have enough connection time, use the SkyLine people mover (2–3 minutes between stations) and follow signs to the FastTrack/priority lane in the departures security hall for your departure terminal. Also check whether your airline or status grants you Fast Track for free — if not, purchasing access can still save considerable time during peak morning and evening waves.

Who benefits most from FastTrack at FRA

Business travellers

Save time during morning and evening peaks and reduce stress when travelling on tight schedules.

Families with children

Faster processing helps reduce queues with strollers, pushchairs and extra baggage.

Short connection passengers

Priority lanes reduce security bottlenecks when you have limited connection times between flights.

Passengers needing assistance

Faster movement through security minimizes time standing; still register assistance needs with your airline.

Travel Tips

Arrive early even with FastTrack

FastTrack shortens wait times but allow extra time for check-in, bag drop and possible passport control for non-Schengen departures.

Prepare your carry-on

Place liquids in a single 1-litre clear bag and remove laptops/tablets from bags before reaching the tray to speed screening.

Use SkyLine for terminal transfers

The automated SkyLine connects Terminals 1 and 2 in a few minutes — follow transfer signage and budget time for transfer security.

Check terminal & gate before you travel

Airline terminals and gates can change — verify your departure terminal on your airline app or the FRA website to ensure your FastTrack applies to the correct terminal.

The Verdict

FastTrack wins on 2 of 4 features at Frankfurt am Main Airport. With dedicated service and priority handling from From €15.63 per person, it offers a measurably better experience.

Common Mistakes at Frankfurt am Main Airport

  1. Arriving at the wrong terminal — some airlines operate from Terminal 1 one day and Terminal 2 the next for partner flights; always check your ticket and airport monitors.
  2. Not accounting for immigration for non-Schengen flights — FastTrack at security does not replace passport control.
  3. Leaving laptops or liquids in hand luggage — this slows you down and can lead to manual searches even with FastTrack access.
  4. Assuming FastTrack guarantees instant passage — lanes can still have short waits during extreme peaks or temporary closures.
  5. Failing to bring valid ID or printed/mobile boarding pass to present at the FastTrack entrance

What If...?

  • Temporary lane closures: FastTrack lanes may close for short periods for operational reasons or staffing; have a backup plan and allow extra time.
  • Terminal swaps: Last-minute gate or terminal changes can require you to cross via SkyLine or shuttle; FastTrack purchased for one terminal doesn't automatically transfer to another unless specified.
  • Non-Schengen arrival processing: FastTrack for departures won't help with passport control on arrival from non-Schengen countries — separate immigration queues still apply.
  • Group bookings and children: Very large groups or unusual family compositions may be routed through standard lanes for security or safety reasons.
