What Is FastTrack Security?
FastTrack Security is a dedicated, pre-bookable security lane available at participating airports worldwide. It allows all passengers — regardless of airline or ticket class — to bypass the standard security queue and pass through a separate, less crowded checkpoint.
By booking FastTrack in advance, you secure a spot in a priority lane that typically has significantly shorter wait times than the regular queue. This means less time standing in line and more time enjoying the terminal, shopping, or simply relaxing before your flight.
FastTrack Security is available to everyone — families, solo travellers, business passengers, and leisure flyers alike. There are no membership requirements or loyalty programme tiers needed to access the service.
What FastTrack Is Not
- Not airport lounge access — FastTrack only covers the security screening process
- Not priority boarding — your boarding process remains as per your airline's policy
- Not immigration fast-track — passport control and border checks are separate from security screening
Airport Overview
About Stockholm Arlanda Airport
Arlanda is Sweden’s largest airport and the primary international gateway for the Stockholm region. The campus covers a large area north of the city and combines long-haul, short-haul and domestic services across four passenger terminals. Airlines operating significant services at Arlanda include Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Norwegian Air Shuttle and a range of European carriers and intercontinental operators.
Passenger flows are organised across Terminals 2–5. Terminal 2 caters mainly to regional and smaller domestic operators, Terminal 3 handles domestic and some Schengen services, Terminal 4 accommodates many Schengen and European departures, and Terminal 5 is the largest international terminal handling long-haul and non‑Schengen flights. Ground transport options include the Arlanda Express high-speed train to Stockholm Central (about 18–20 minutes), SJ regional trains and commuter services, Flygbussarna airport coaches, taxis with fixed fares, and extensive car parking and rental car facilities.
Security Information
Security screening at Arlanda follows standard European rules: remove liquids over 100 ml, place electronics larger than a smartphone in a separate bin, and present boarding pass and ID when requested. Trained airport security staff operate the checkpoints; expect additional checks for connecting passengers coming from non‑Schengen countries. During peak hours the busiest lanes are in Terminal 5 departures; Terminals 4 and 5 have multiple staffed priority lanes. Travellers with reduced mobility should notify their airline in advance for assistance through security.

Is FastTrack Worth It at Stockholm Arlanda Airport?
FastTrack is valuable at Arlanda because morning and early evening peaks—especially on routes to and from mainland Europe—can produce queues that add uncertainty to short connection times. Purchasing FastTrack gives quicker access through dedicated security lanes in the main departure terminals, which is particularly useful for business travellers, families with children and travellers with evening tight connections.
Local tip: If you’re connecting from an international flight into a Schengen departure, allow extra time for transfer procedures between non‑Schengen and Schengen sides, and use FastTrack in Terminal 5 or Terminal 4 to reduce the risk of missing onward flights.
Average Wait Times
Who benefits most from FastTrack at Arlanda
Business travellers
Reduce time through security and protect tight schedules when commuting between Stockholm and major European cities.
Families with children
Less time queuing and fewer tray transfers makes security easier when travelling with small children.
Short connections
Passengers connecting from non‑Schengen arrivals benefit from priority lanes to reduce risk of missed connections.
Winter travellers
During winter disruptions such as de-icing delays, FastTrack helps reduce time spent in busy terminal areas.
Travel Tips
Plan for Arlanda Express timing
Arlanda Express takes about 18–20 minutes to Stockholm Central. Allow time to transfer from the train arrival platform to your terminal and factor this into your recommended arrival window.
Confirm your terminal at Stockholm Arlanda
Terminals 4 and 5 handle most international departures; double-check your airline’s terminal to ensure your FastTrack booking matches the correct arrival point for priority lanes.
Use SkyCity for last-minute needs
The SkyCity area between Terminals 4 and 5 has shops and essentials after security; if you have FastTrack, you can move through security faster and use this central area for last-minute purchases.
Allow extra time in winter at Arlanda
Cold weather can trigger de-icing and operational procedures that lengthen pre-departure processes; FastTrack reduces one variable by shortening security time.

Common Mistakes at Stockholm Arlanda Airport
- Booking flights with a short connection without factoring in immigration when arriving from outside the Schengen Area.
- Heading straight to the airport without checking which terminal your airline uses—SAS and many European carriers operate mainly from Terminals 4 and 5.
- Packing liquids in containers larger than 100 ml or leaving electronics in bags instead of separate trays at security.
- Assuming the Arlanda Express is the cheapest option for transfers; coaches and commuter trains can be more economical depending on luggage and passenger count.
- Not allowing additional time during winter months when de-icing and reduced visibility can add to boarding and departure times.
What If...?
- FastTrack lanes may be unavailable during short-term operational changes (heavy security, incidents); check communications from the terminal staff on arrival.
- Passengers transferring from an intercontinental arrival to a Schengen departure sometimes need to pass both immigration and security; FastTrack for security does not replace passport control.
- Large-group bookings (over a certain size) may not be accepted in the same FastTrack slot and could require separate arrangements through the airline or airport.
- Some low-cost carriers operating charter-like routes use remote stands with bus transfers; FastTrack covers security lanes only and will not speed up on-board bus transfers to remote stands.
